A bit chilly maybe but tomorrow is supposed to be unbelievable.

Seems like Spring has finally come.

Here’s an upbeat track from Britt Daniels the lead singer of Spoon.

I heard this randomly the other day and I have not been able to get it out of my head.  Damn that Texan is talented.

He and his band will be playing at next week’s Jazz Fest in New Orleans.

Teabaggers

At about 6 PM there were maybe 50 or 60 people gathered along the docks of our own Christopher Columbus Park.

Holding hand-made signs and buzzing at the chance to make Fox News’ coverage of the event, these protesters stood in small groups mumbling about teabags and revolution.

The genesis of the idea started from the idea that certain people are upset with the over expansion and overspending of the government that has occurred since the economic recession began in October.

In response they have decided to embrace CNBC’s Rick Santelli’s call to protest the national government by hosting a nonviolent Tea-Party, much like our colonial predecessors.

Sadly, today’s protest did not have to seem the visceral impact of a real protest.

There seemed to be no organizational effort put together, nor was there any real protesting.

Most political rallies I’ve been to have speakers, music and the shouts of legitimately angry people. All this seemed to be absent from today’s festivities.

Nearly everyone present were Caucasian, J. Crew wearing yuppies and right-wingers. Add in a couple of red solo cups and I might have mistaken it for Figawi party.

Television cameras from CNN, Fox News and a few local affiliates interviewed some of the protesters.

The loudmouth members of the crowd had plenty to say about the horrible job President Obama was doing in office, how he was using their tax dollars to coddle lazy workers and how they were very much against his “Socialist” policies.

However, when pressed on what solutions or ideas they had that could fix America’s economic crisis – no one seemed to have an answer.

The protest appeared to be systemic of the right wing’s bumbling approach to the 21st century. They have fallen behind the times, fallen apart and are desparately grasping  for some kind of foothold in the modern American political landscape.

Aside from regurgitating an infamous moment in American History and dumping a few Lipton Tea packets into the Boston Harbor – this protest appeared to have no real impact.

Also completely absent from the protest was any sort of acknowledgment of the new meaning that the word Teabag has taken in the past 10 years or so.

I mean even Anderson Cooper gets the joke:

Witnessing this throng of meandering misanthropes was akin to seeing the strings of an audio tape hang from the branches of a tree. Intriguing and laughably novel at first but ultimately sad and tacky.

Much like the teabags themselves this event appeared to do nothing but create a forgettable, earl grey flotsam upon the surface of the powerful current of the American 21st century.

I took a nice trip up to Vermont to see the Burton Open at Stratton.  Lots of shredders, grommits and Betty’s.

Danny Kass won the Men’s Halfpipe finals, Torah Bright won the Women’s and Santigold (formerly Santogold) played an energetic show following the event.

For my money there are no better sports commentators than 20-something stoner kids eating burgers.
